Going Beyond Google Instant:

Announcing Google Instant Previews

Today Google announced and launched what they call “Google Instant Previews.”

Now when doing a search on Google you can get a preview of websites before you click on the search results. This allows users to quickly preview sites before actually visiting them.

Why would you need this?

Google has estimated that people who use Google Previews are 5% more likely to be satisfied with the results they click. Previews help increase the speed of search because you can get a glimpse of what the website looks like before visiting it. This saves time because you don’t have to wait for websites to load before you determine they are not relevant for your search.

For example, if you are doing comparison shopping, then by using Google Previews users can quickly see if the website offers side-by-side comparisons or reviews of products. Or maybe you are trying to find a website that you visited in the past, but don’t remember the name of the site. Google Previews allows you to quickly preview the results until you recognize the site you are looking for and then just click on the link to return to the site.

This is another step in the evolutionary process at Google helping users find a great search experience by giving relevant results and helping them find what they are searching for as quickly as possible.

How will this affect traffic statistics to your website, SEO strategies, or your marketing plan?

Only time will tell, however, if you are a website owner this definitely can have an impact on who visits your website.  You now will have to capture the attention of the user who only sees an image of your website, so it better give them what they want if you want them to visit your site.

For now you can check it out yourself by searching on Google and then clicking on the image of the magnifying glass at the end of each title in the search listings. Once you’ve activated Google Previews by clicking the magnifying glass, then simply hover over the magnifying glass at the end of subsequent results and the preview will automatically open for you.

A couple days ago I was asked to sit down and review the selling process for a small business’ company website.

I started by asking some basic questions and then I wanted to see how they were advertising and where the advertising sent prospects for more information.

I should have been shocked at everything that they were doing wrong, but I’ve seen it so many times before that it didn’t faze me.
